Systems & Network Administrator (Intermediate)

We are seeking a Systems & Network Administrator (Intermediate) to join our Information Technology team in St. John’s, Newfoundland.

This role will work closely alongside the Systems Administrator and broader IT team to ensure continuity, resilience, and depth of technical capability across our IT environment. The successful candidate will contribute across systems administration, networking, infrastructure operations, security, and user support within a safety-critical and highly operational environment.

Key Responsibilities

Systems & Infrastructure Administration

  • Assist with administration and maintenance of Windows server environments
  • Support Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and certificate services
  • Assist in the administration of Microsoft 365 services and email messaging systems
  • Support virtualization platforms (VMWare and Hyper-V) and backup systems
  • Participate in patch management, monitoring, and lifecycle planning
  • Contribute to disaster recovery planning and testing
  • Assist with vendor coordination and solution planning/evaluation
  • Create and maintain technical support documentation for systems and applications

Network Administration

  • Support firewalls, VPNs, switches, routers, and wireless access points
  • Assist with network monitoring, performance management, and troubleshooting
  • Maintain endpoint protection, content filtering, and security controls
  • Support vulnerability remediation and infrastructure hardening
  • Configure and maintain network-related devices and services

Security, Governance & Continuous Improvement

  • Follow and contribute to IT policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Assist with compliance and audit support
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and modernization
  • Remain current on emerging technologies and industry developments

User & Endpoint Operations

  • Support the IT team in maintaining reliable endpoint and user computing environments across the organization
  • Assist with troubleshooting hardware, software, and operating system issues affecting desktops, laptops, mobile devices, IP phones, and related peripherals
  • Contribute to workstation provisioning, onboarding support, and end-user guidance as part of broader operational support activities
  • Maintain technical documentation, asset records, and operational procedures related to endpoint systems
  • Participate in after-hours operational support, as required

Safety & Quality Responsibilities

  • Actively promote workplace safety
  • Comply with Cougar SMS and HSE programs
  • Report hazards through the Safety Hazard Observation Program (SHOP)
  • Follow all operational and safety procedures

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3–4 years of IT related experience and 1-2 years of systems administration or infrastructure support.
  • Strong working knowledge of Windows desktop and server environments
  • Experience with Active Directory, Microsoft 365, VMWare
  • Familiarity with networking fundamentals and security practices
  • Experience supporting backup and disaster recovery solutions
  • Must qualify for an Airport Security Pass, Controlled Goods and Government of Canada Secret Security Clearance.
  • Must live and work in the St. John’s area
