Sr. Managing Director - Institutional Sales

THE ROLE

Using discretion and judgment, works with department head to develop, implement, communicate and monitor the Institutional sales and professional buyers’ strategy. Responsible for effective marketing of the firm’s investment management services to institutional investors, consultants as well as professional buyers. Work to find well aligned asset owners who believe in active management and longer term investment philosophies. Acts as subject matter expert with in-depth knowledge and understanding within the institutional sales field with extensive communication skills internally and externally with clients.


WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Work with Global Head of Sales to develop and implement sales strategies to align with MFS company strategy. Monitor industry trends and develops a long-term strategy/business plan for distributing MFS’ investment management services to institutional investors, consultants and professional buyers to achieve sales goals with extensive communication skills internally and externally with clients.
  • Lead and manage the sales and platforms & sub-advisory team through individual and team meetings. Assign and monitor goals for the team and individual team members and oversee talent management of relevant distribution team members including training.
  • Develop and implement tactical plans and approaches for achieving agreed upon results in both the sales of institutional products/pooled funds and the gathering of institutional and professional buyers’ assets.
  • Work with Senior Managing Director, Relationship Management, and their teams to ensure coordination and execution of business strategy locally and with the Sr. Managing Director – Global Institutional Strategic Accounts (Consultant Relations) for local implementation of consultant strategy.
  • Partner with the MFS product, compliance, legal, marketing and investment teams in all facets of the gathering and retention of assets on behalf of the firm.
  • Represents region within MFS to ensure global partners are aware of local requirements and complexities. Act as a representative on strategic projects to ensure global solutions are created and local nuance is considered.
  • Partner with other Regional Heads to collaborate and share best practice in order to deliver consistent global success.
  • Assume additional duties as requested.


WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Bachelor’s degree required. CFA/MBA strongly preferre d. Advising representative registration preferred
  • Minimum of 15+ years experience in the asset management industry
  • Extensive experience in managing a distribution team and in distributing financial products to institutions and their consultants as well as professional buyers.
  • Deep knowledge of the investment process and fixed income technical skills in particular. Knowledge of product and portfolio design that leads to facility and credibility working closely with investment managers.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, management and influencing skills.
  • Superbly organized with an ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple agendas.
  • Position requires registration with applicable provincial regulatory bodies.
  • Travel required.
  • Fluency in location language and English are important.
