Saguache County Land Use Department is accepting applications for a full-time Code Enforcement Officer to help support safe, healthy, and well-managed communities throughout the county.

This position involves a mix of fieldwork and office work and is ideal for someone who enjoys working independently, interacting with the public, and helping resolve issues in a fair and professional manner. The Code Enforcement Officer works closely with the Land Use Office, residents, property owners, and other agencies to address land use issues, public health, safety, and environmental concerns.

What You’ll Do

  • Conduct inspections of properties and public areas to ensure compliance with the Saguache County Land Development Code, Nuisance Ordinance and applicable safety, health, and environmental regulations.
  • Respond to and investigate complaints related to potential violations or hazards.
  • Document inspection findings and prepare clear, accurate reports.
  • Issue notices, conduct follow-up inspections, and work with property owners to achieve compliance.
  • Maintain organized records related to inspections and enforcement activities.
  • Coordinate with local agencies, health departments, and law enforcement when needed.
  • Provide information and education to the public regarding safety standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare records for court cases.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience in regulatory enforcement, safety compliance, or a related field is preferred.
  • Ability to interpret regulations and apply them consistently and fairly.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work professionally with the public.
  • Good written skills for preparing reports and documentation.
  • A self-motivated, solutions-oriented approach with good judgment and problem-solving skills.

Minimum Requirements

  • Valid Colorado Driver’s License
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test

Pay & Benefits

  • Salary: Starting at $42,000 per year, depending on experience
