[Remote] SCOM Monitoring Analyst

Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. CDW is seeking a SCOM Monitoring Analyst for a 6 month contract to hire that can be done 100% remotely. The role involves configuring, maintaining, and improving the monitoring framework for infrastructure and application environments while collaborating with multiple teams to ensure effective monitoring and alerting mechanisms are in place.


Responsibilities

  • Day to day support of the monitoring framework including short- and long-term planning, health checks, software patching, capacity planning, security, performance analysis, and tuning
  • Monitor and troubleshoot monitoring and event management configurations of network, systems, application performance and various CI’s
  • Coordinate the planning and implementation of the monitoring framework infrastructure hardware and/or software
  • Serve as support in the evaluation of monitoring designs and/or approaches for system enhancements
  • Develop capacity and availability monitoring and reporting processes for solutions
  • Develop and manage cross-platform monitoring architecture for virtualized computing and storage infrastructure
  • Develops and performs tests to ensure systems meet documented user requirements and provides input for documentation on new or existing systems
  • Execute Corporate IT daily support activities including:
  • Change Control Tasks
  • IT Requests
  • Incident Tickets
  • Assigned Project Tasks
  • Operational accountability for providing data necessary to perform root cause analysis, coordination and oversight of problem resolutions
  • Design, Collect and Report on Capacity Data and Information
  • Design, Collect and Report on Availability Data and Information
  • Participates in special projects as required

Skills

  • Deep understanding of System Center Operations Manager (management servers, gateways, agents, data warehouse, and operational DB)
  • Experience with SCOM installation, upgrades, and patching
  • Strong knowledge of SCOM monitoring workflows (rules, monitors, discoveries, tasks, diagnostics, recoveries)
  • Ability to configure and manage overrides, groups, views, and dashboards
  • Familiarity with SCOM security roles, RunAs accounts, and profiles
  • Experience troubleshooting agent health, connectivity, and performance issues
  • Proficiency using the Visual Studio Authoring Extensions (VSAE)
  • Ability to write and maintain custom discoveries, custom monitors and rules, custom recoveries, custom modules, custom health models
  • Strong understanding of MP XML structure and schema
  • Experience with fragments, snippets, and templates in VSAE
  • Ability to create sealed management packs
  • Knowledge of MP versioning, packaging, and deployment best practices
  • Strong PowerShell skills, especially for creating and maintaining custom monitoring, discovery, and recovery scripts
  • Querying SCOM via the OperationsManager module
