The City of Tuscaloosa Police Department is accepting applications from currently APOST-certified or out-of-state certified law enforcement officers.

Starting Salary:
Based on verified years of certified law enforcement experience
$57,324.51 – $81,503.82

Position Overview

Police Officers protect life and property, enforce city, state, and federal laws, respond to emergencies, conduct investigations, and serve the Tuscaloosa community through proactive and community-focused policing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enforce traffic and criminal laws
  • Patrol assigned areas to deter crime and promote safety
  • Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls
  • Conduct criminal investigations and process crime scenes
  • Interview victims, witnesses, and suspects
  • Prepare reports and maintain accurate records
  • Execute warrants and make arrests
  • Testify in court and assist with prosecutions
  • Work collaboratively with other law enforcement agencies
  • Participate in community policing and outreach initiatives
  • Perform special assignments (task forces, special details, units) as assigned

Selection Process

Qualified applicants will receive instructions via email to submit required documentation. Failure to submit documents by the stated deadline will result in removal from consideration. A background investigation will follow, and selected candidates may be contacted for an interview.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver’s license
  • At least 21 years of age
  • U.S. Citizen
  • Current Alabama APOST certification or equivalent out-of-state certification
  • Firearms qualified and licensed
  • Must pass background investigation and drug screening
