Position: Geographic Information System (GIS) Professional Scientist (Remote/Hybrid) Overview The Opportunity: Tetra Tech is adding a qualified Geographic Information System (GIS) Professional Scientist to support a variety of projects in a fast-paced consulting environment at our Portland, OR office. The successful candidate will perform GIS and data management tasks including spatial analysis, geospatial data/database management, mobile data collection, and figure/map generation for biological and natural resource programs. The position will primarily support routing and siting of electric transmission and substation projects. This role functions within a collaborative team of GIS professionals and project managers supporting a wide range of natural resources and permitting projects. The majority of work will be office-based, with a focus on quality data management, analysis, and deliverables. Your Role • Provide reliable GIS support for natural resource and energy project data analysis. • Create routing evaluation models, evaluate data outputs, classify and rank routing segments, and prepare opportunities and constraints analyses for transmission routes and alternatives. • Prepare hard copy and digital figures and field maps using ArcGIS Pro. • Perform geospatial data management, analysis, and documentation. • Identify, obtain, and manage published spatial datasets to support natural resources projects. • Compile metadata documentation compliant with FGDC and related standards. • Design, maintain, and document geodatabases and enterprise systems using ESRI software. • Collect, download, correct, and export GPS data using Field Maps and Survey 123. • Ensure all deliverables meet Tetra Tech s high data quality and review standards. • Support "greenfield" routing and siting analysis across diverse environments and jurisdictions, including multi-state transmission corridors. • Demonstrate a positive attitude, attention to detail, and responsive customer service for internal and external clients. • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards. • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness. • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns. • Additional duties as required. Qualifications • Bachelor s or Master s degree in Geography, Environmental Science, GIS, or a related field. • Minimum 5 years of professional GIS experience. • Proficiency with ESRI ArcGIS Pro and enterprise-level geodatabase management. • Experience performing GIS-based routing and siting evaluations for renewable energy and/or electric transmission projects. • Experience collecting and analyzing GPS field data using Field Maps and Survey 123. • Knowledge of SQL databases (arenaflex SQL Server preferred). • Strong proficiency in arenaflex Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook). • Excellent data management, organizational, and communication skills. • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. • Highly motivated, adaptable, and detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills. • Professional demeanor and commitment to quality work in all aspects of performance. • Must possess a valid driver s license with a clean driving record without restrictions.
