Finance Officer Part-Time

I am exclusively working with a not-for-profit organisation in central Birmingham who urgently require a Part-Time Finance Officer for an immediate start. The role requires 3 days a week in the office (22.5 hours per week), and is paying £30-35k FTE.

What you'll do:

  • Process and maintain accurate financial records in accordance with established procedures and deadlines, ensuring all transactions are recorded efficiently and correctly.
  • Support the preparation of monthly management accounts as well as other internal reports required by senior finance staff, contributing to informed decision-making across the organisation.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end processes such as reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and ensure all relevant documentation is up-to-date and compliant.
  • Monitor budgets by accurately coding income and expenditure items, proactively identifying any anomalies or discrepancies for further investigation.
  • Handle staff expense claims, purchase orders, and payments while ensuring strict adherence to financial policies and maintaining confidentiality at all times.
  • Oversee cash flow monitoring and banking transactions to support the ongoing financial health of the organisation.
  • Maintain up-to-date records within finance systems such as XLedger, Sage or equivalent platforms, ensuring data integrity and ease of retrieval.
  • Support timely processing of invoices, credit notes, receipts, and assist in resolving supplier or customer queries in a professional manner.
  • Reconcile supplier statements regularly and follow up on outstanding items to maintain positive relationships with external partners.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives within the finance function by supporting digital tool implementation and reviewing existing systems for greater efficiency.

What you bring:

  • Proven experience working in a finance or accounting role where accuracy and reliability were paramount.
  • Excellent numeracy skills combined with exceptional attention to detail when processing financial data or reconciling accounts.
  • Demonstrated ability to process invoices, payments, reconciliations efficiently using accounting software packages such as Sage or XLedger.
  • Strong organisational capabilities enabling you to manage multiple priorities simultaneously while consistently meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a small supportive team environment.
  • High level of integrity with proven discretion when handling confidential information related to finances or personnel matters.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting purposes within a finance context.
