Overview Lead the design and development of seasonal collections for women’s cut and sew knits and lounge, balancing creative vision with business objectives and brand identity. This role requires a strong aesthetic sense, technical expertise, and the ability to translate trends into compelling, customer-focused product stories. The ideal candidate thrives in a collaborative environment and brings both inspiration and precision to every stage of the design process. Responsibilities • Develop seasonal concepts, sketches, and cohesive product stories aligned with brand aesthetic and market trends • Coordinate and unify the creative execution of product across the assortment • Research seasonal trends, themes, color palettes, fabrications, silhouettes, and styling • Create detailed technical sketches and presentation materials using Illustrator and Photoshop • Maintain seasonal design boards, fabric/trim books, and digital archives • Oversee creative direction for women’s graphic design and manage freelance graphic artists • Brainstorm and pitch new design ideas that push creative boundaries while staying aligned with the brand DNA • Partner with cross-functional teams to develop seasonal lounge prints that reflect current trends and elevate the brand's aesthetic. • Create and manage design cards and tech packs for first protos, including construction details and measurements • Collaborate with Merchandising, Production, and Technical Design to ensure product execution meets creative vision, fit, and margin goals • Conduct fittings and communicate design direction to maintain product integrity • Source and develop yarns, fabrics, and trims in partnership with Production and external suppliers • Approve lab dips, fabric/yarn submits, and strike-offs • Partner with cross-functional teams throughout the design cycle to ensure timeline and deliverables are met • Assist with preparation and maintenance of seasonal design presentations • Mentor and manage junior designers or freelancers, fostering a collaborative and creatively driven team culture • Contribute to a positive, solutions-focused work environment through clear communication and proactive collaboration Qualifications • 5–7 years of women’s apparel design experience, with a strong focus on cut and sew knits and lounge • High taste level and creative sensibility with an understanding of brand identity and customer mindset • Strong ability to translate market and fashion trends into innovative product • Working knowledge of garment construction, pattern/fit, fabric and yarn development • Excellent color sense and experience with print/color research and application • Strong illustration and presentation skills • Detail-oriented with strong follow-through and organizational skills • Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment • Demonstrated experience in mentoring and developing junior team members • Understanding of the J.Crew Factory brand and ability to design within brand guidelines • Proficient in Illustrator, Photoshop, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PLM systems • BA in Fashion Design or equivalent #LI-ED1 We welcome you to apply, even if you don't check all the boxes.
