DE-26-327 - Data Engineer I - (AWS and DevOps Focus)

Next Phase Solutions and Services, Inc. is seeking a Data Engineer I with a focus on AWS and DevOps to support a federal healthcare analytics program. This role is ideal for an early-career engineer who will support cloud-based data pipelines and DevOps workflows in a regulated environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support and maintain CI/CD pipelines (build, test, deploy) using tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or GitLab CI
  • Assist with deploying and supporting applications in AWS environments (e.g., EC2, S3, CloudWatch, IAM)
  • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot pipeline and deployment issues in production environments
  • Work with engineering and DevOps team to ensure reliable and consistent releases
  • Contribute to automation efforts using scripting (e.g., Python, Bash)
  • Support containerization workflows (Docker) for development and deployment environments
  • Assist with system monitoring logging, and basic performance tuning
  • Follow security and compliance best practices in a federal environment

Skills

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Gitlab CI), including build and deployment workflows
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services (e.g., EC2, S3, Lambda, or similar)
  • Basic experience with Docker or containerization environments
  • Experience working in a Linux or command-line environment
  • Familiarity with scripting (Python, Bash, or similar)
  • Experience with Git (branching, merging, pull requests)
  • Ability to clearly explain technical work and contribute within a team environment
  • 1 - 3 years of hands-on experience in a cloud, DevOps, or data engineering-related role (Internship experience is acceptable if it includes real hands-on work)
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or authorized to work in the United States
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance (required for CMS work)
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload based on the needs of the client
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and frequent changes in priorities
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Excellent technical writing skills and proven experience in systems with complex requirements
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills, with the ability to team with others to meet project objectives
  • Understanding of the system development lifecycle as implemented with Agile; SAFe knowledge a plus
  • Exposure to infrastructure-as-code (e.g., CloudFormation, Terraform)
  • Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., CloudWatch, Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana)
  • Prior experience supporting production systems
  • Experience in a federal or regulated environment (e.g., CMS, DHS, healthcare data)
  • AWS certification (Cloud Practitioner or Associate level)
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field (preferred)
