## Coordinator - Utilization Management/Review This is a temporary position running from March 22 through September 20, 2026. You'll be joining a tertiary care academic medical center with level one trauma designation, ST - Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) receiving center designation, and comprehensive stroke center accreditation. ### What You'll Do Working collaboratively with the Clinical Admission Nurse in a fast-paced environment, you'll support the daily operations of Patient Placement Services. Your responsibilities include managing the admission and transfer of patients into Loma Linda University Health hospitals—which include Loma Linda University Medical Center (LLUMC), Surgical Hospital, East Campus Hospital, and Loma Linda University Children's Hospital—from multiple portals of entry. You'll coordinate and monitor medical and surgical planned admissions while maintaining the Patient Placement and Transfer Center Work Queues. Processing intake calls forms a significant part of your role, handling ED to ED transfers, interfacility transfers, and urgent admissions. This includes coordinating and connecting transferring physicians with receiving physicians. You'll collect pertinent demographic, financial, and clinical data on all intake calls and interface with payers and clinics regarding authorization for admission. Collaboration with the Patient Business Office (PBO) for identification of payer sources, eligibility verification, and indigent programs is essential to the position. You'll demonstrate the ability to make solid decisions and work with minimal supervision while performing other duties as needed in this dynamic healthcare setting. ### What We're Looking For You must hold a high school diploma or GED. More importantly, you'll need a minimum of three years of experience with a medical group, managed care organization, utilization management, hospital admitting, or medical nursing unit. You'll possess basic knowledge of medical terminology, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and patient rights. Working knowledge of healthcare insurances and health plans is required. Nationally recognized certification in Utilization Management, Utilization Review, Hospital Utilization Review, or Managed Care is preferred. ### Essential Skills and Abilities You should be able to read and write legibly, speak English fluently (Spanish preferred), and relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others. You'll need to think critically, work with minimal supervision, and meet firm deadlines. Proficiency with computers, printers, and software programs necessary to the position is essential, along with the ability to operate and troubleshoot equipment. Additionally, you should be assertive and consistent in following policies, work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure, accept and follow directions, and perform basic math functions. Managing multiple assignments effectively, organizing and prioritizing your workload, and collaborating with registered nurses to problem-solve are key competencies. You'll need to recall information with accuracy, pay close attention to detail, and function within scope of practice.
