The Associate position at CVS Health Ventures (CVSHV) is a highly analytic role supporting our investments in external venture capital funds as part of our Market Development team. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting a portfolio of external fund investments, with a focus on identifying, evaluating, and selecting top-performing funds that align with our strategic investment objectives. Distinct from other team roles that are centered on direct company investments, this position emphasizes the evaluation of venture capital fund managers, analysis of emerging market trends, and assistance with platform and operational tasks. The Associate will collaborate closely with CVSHV colleagues, cross-functional teams, and external stakeholders to conduct in- depth diligence, perform market research, and address ongoing operational needs of the team. Ideal candidates will possess consulting experience, with a strong understanding of venture capital fund investing or asset management, a background in working with large investment platforms, preferably with a focus on the healthcare sector, and the ability to deliver actionable insights and produce high-quality materials that support the team in making informed investment decisions and fostering robust relationships. The Market Development team plays a critical role in achieving CVSHV’s dual objectives of optimizing financial returns and advancing enterprise strategy through our investments. This team fosters growth within our existing portfolio companies by facilitating collaboration with venture capital partners and internal business teams, while providing strategic guidance and support to help them achieve their objectives. Additionally, Market Development enhances enterprise value across various business lines through insight generation, strategic support, and seamless orchestration of high value connections.

Responsibilities

  • Fund Evaluation and Investment Analysis: Conduct fund manager evaluation and diligence, analyzing venture capital managers, team composition, track record, market focus, and deal sourcing
  • Organize and manage a pipeline of fund investment opportunities and existing relationships, tracking the status while identifying opportunities to advance the pipeline and deepen partnerships
  • Create and prepare executive materials and memo development for fund investment opportunities
  • Relationship Management: Work closely with CVSHV team members to support General Partner (GP) relationships post-investment, manage external communications, plan events, and facilitate recurring touchpoints
  • Coordinate and support portfolio engagement for Limited Partner (LP) positions, including performance tracking, strategic initiative support, and fostering relationships with external team members
  • Market Research and Fund Portfolio Tracking: Monitor fund portfolio performance and engagement and assist in updating long-term fund-of-funds capital deployment model
  • Create structured market maps, portfolio exposure, and performance benchmarking, to inform fund‑of‑funds and direct investment priorities, with emphasis on healthcare‑adjacent and technology‑enabled frameworks
  • Broad Market Development Activities: Engage business teams to build relationships and gain insight into strategic priorities and roadmap, identifying partnership opportunities to address business needs
  • Develop targeted investment theses in key areas of innovation, identifying investment opportunities that align with the organization’s strategic goals
  • Support select portfolio companies through a strategic portfolio management role, providing guidance and resources to enhance the growth
  • Process Improvement: Contribute to scaling and refining internal tools, templates, and processes that improve efficiency and consistency across the platform
  • Project management of administrative and operational processes (e.g., CRM, documentation, reporting) in coordination with other parts of the team
  • Administrative Support and Travel: Support administrative functions such as organizing meetings/events, coordinating logistics, and managing related communications

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional experience (internships excluded)
  • Experience in management consulting, venture capital/corporate venture capital, investment research, asset management/fund investing, corporate strategy, or private equity/investment banking roles
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, with experience in financial modeling and producing polished, executive-level‑level materials

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with venture fund economics, fund structures, and performance metrics
  • Exposure to healthcare, healthcare services, or healthcare technology markets
  • Experience supporting operating or platform functions within an investment organization
  • Self-starter with strong independent judgment and comfort navigating ambiguity among multiple workstreams
  • Strong communicator, both verbal and written, with the ability to influence across functions at all levels of an organization
  • Strong presentation skills, with experience developing clear, concise materials for senior executives, including familiarity with Microsoft PowerPoint
